Eenie Meenie Minnie Moe

Wow did I never know that picking paint was soooo hard!
I had my favorite and to show my hubby that I was going through all the necessary
picking procedures, I went and got 2 sample pints of greens.
I painted by my door and around the side of the house by a window to have it by trim.
Happily I painted them up and I smiled as I did.
I thought "What a pretty green color(1) that goes so well with the trim!"
Then I stepped back and looked at the work and imagined the whole house in it.
Then my house disappeared!  The vast plains full of matching yellowing &
brownish muted greens were the same color as my favorite color for the  house.

Currently the house is a warm beige/ pre-primed siding.
It has been unpainted since installation before we moved in 2008 2 1/2 years ago and
needs this paint now!  (Who knows how long it went unpainted before we came?)
So after some tears... (yes I'm one of those girls)  I had to start all over.
How do I pick a color when the favorite color is a bad choice for our home?
I am no expert but I decided to figure out what I wanted to see when I came home.
I want a refreshing and contrasting home.  I want to see my house as I come over
the rise yes even from over a mile away.  So no earthy tones that will make it disappear.
No browns, beige, muted or grayed greens, no yellows, or golds/oranges.  No reds
because our barns are red and we want to distinguish the house from the barns.
That left pink, purple,  and blue. My hubby said no way on pink!
It wasn't very promising.  I was still wishing to see green.  That is when I started
looking at blues with green in them.  I grew up in a blue house and didn't want to
be too similar to that color.  My hubby didn't want anything too light.  There is sooo
much sunshine here it would just wash it out.
So that is where we are.  Blue greens aren't typically seen over here.  My hubby and
I looked at so many swatches  at the paint place I just wanted to fall over and cry again.
(I barely made it with out tears my hubby was proud.)  We came home with 6 new
sample swatches and no idea which one was going to be the one.  My hubby really
liked going blue, he never liked the green.  Yes, he did remind me of that as he told me
"Aren't you glad we didn't paint the whole house, before you knew it would disappear?"
and I got his shoulder all wet with my blubbering.
Now my house looks like a patch work quilt.  Seriously.  I'd show you more than by the
door but it's too awful!
But I finally made up my mind on the paint color.  Not too bright, not grayed out  or too dark.
I decided on a blue/green teal color below is preview/ mock up of how it looks with color (4).
Wish us luck! Hope to see my home with happy smiles and not groans!

Sister Tea Party

Thank you for coming to my little Tea Party!
It was a success thanks to my little sister C who helped me
make Cucumber sandwiches, deviled eggs as I made chocolate
muffins, raspberry mouse, dipped strawberries in chocolate
and dashed to the market for roses and strawberries.

I found some pink heart cookies at the market that I had to
get for my little event. So pretty and yummy. I made some
Devonshire Tartlets the day before as well. We had more
than enough little cucumber sandwiches. The shrimp was a favorite.

Everything was lovely especially the sisters I shared the
afternoon with. Thank you ladies. I miss you now that
you have gone home. I also discovered that my two
sisters aren't on my new Visiting route. I will miss them.

Oh well, we can always get together for another Tea Partty.
..... I can hardly wait

I still can't believe this cake turned out so well.
I am not a big cake decorator.
I did some fun pirate bandannas for all the guest
and some felt heart shaped eye patches.
I made the banner with fabrics I serged them all together.
Found the sparkly skulls at our dollar store that was a fun bonus.

WE 3 Trees...

Burgundy&GOLD
This is our tallest tree at 7 feet and this year we decorated it in the traditional or our original color scheme from when we first were married.

PINK&White
This tree I bought for our Master bedroom so I could have Christmas there too.
This year my sister LJ and I put it together and decorated it all in pink and white ornaments.
I have it on display on top of my dining room table with a nativity in front of it on one side and Santa's Sleigh on the other end of the table.

SANTA&SNOWMEN
My third tree is in our family room. I call it the Kids tree because most of the ornaments are not as breakable. It was a great deal for only $30 dollars from Target last year. I have a pretty big collection of Santas and Snowmen as well as Gingerbreadmen on this tree. I also try to put up ornaments with my kids pictures inside of them.

Fabulous find!

Do love my Halloween fruit basket.
The basket was a gift, but the real find was the beautiful fruit!
It is from the Dollar Tree! Yep this faux fruit that looks good enough to eat was only $1.
It looks like I could have purchased these from any craft store for much bigger prices!!!
I can keep them out all year or save them for the fall.
I know it's silly to feel so giddy about pretend fruit but I love it!!!!

Surprise Makover!

A little birdie flew over and surprised us with a playroom make over!
Here we have before...
...here is after!
What a lovely awning with cute fabrics!
fabric flowers and birds...
what lovely attention to details!
This lovely room was thought up and designed by my sister Mer! She is so very talented!
She recruited my entire family (brother in law, siblings, parents...) in these parts to put it together. My mom and other sis AnnieCarie sewed and cut and painted and glued. They put it all together while I was with my husband and kids in the mountains!

Family Night BBQ

My sister invited us over for Family night on Monday. She had all her fun summer red white and blue decorations out.
I was introduced to Guitar Hero. That was really fun to strum along with favorite rock songs. A lot of the selection took me back in time to High School memories. My B.I.L. was totally awesome at it!
It was really neat after the kids were in bed we played games outside inside the canopy/gazebo with flickering candle light.
It was also fun to shrink back into a kid that talked until the wee hours of the night with my best friend of my youth, my mom!
It was a fun slumber party!

CLoset cleanUp!

I suppose when you have a huge closet you never really HAVE to organize it.
My last house had a huge 12'x15' closet with a his side and a her side with a lot of space.
This house has a walk in closet so that is good but the space is much smaller 5'x6' and corner wall is diagonal and so it isn't a square and that cuts out some of the space.
We have vaulted-sloping ceilings and looking up I saw lots of space there to use. So far all that would happen is this I fold it, put it up there and because of the quantity it all slid off during the day into a heap. So today I tackled my problem and put up another bar for hanging.
It is high but I can put seasonal items up there that I am not going to be wearing right now.
I actually really love the space it frees up to put up all my dresses and skirts! I also boxed up winter sweaters and tucked them into a nook of the closet. Then I hung my hats up!
My hats have longed to be up and seen! Now I walk into my closet and feel happy.
I went to a seminar once where the woman speaking told us clean out your closets and your whole life will change for the better.

Organizing!

Crafting and sewing in my own space!!!
Really awesome!
I have never really had my own designated space without putting one of my children out!
Now I have my own room to paint, sew, cut and paste! It is totally great.
Because it is right off of the playroom I can see and hear my little ones. Maybe I will put in a dutch door and then I can see and hear them with out them wandering in with their toys!
The before was painted purple and pink you can see it on the link. I really love the peach color I put up!

Bathroom redo

At first all I had to go with was a valance and a floral arrangement that I already had.
The walls were white and needed help in spots with patches that needed texture.
I got a curtain that went pretty well with the valance. Which is really lucky!
You never know what you will find when you try to match something!

This is a close up of the floral arrangement. I'd made it like 6 years ago.
Here is a closeup of the valance. I love the colors, red, gold, muted greens and purples.
I painted the walls two shades of gold. One is deeper and richer than the other.
In the pictures it is hard to see the gold color.
I purchased red towels which I thought I'd never do!
Because they bleed in the wash and you have to wash separate every time!
Here you can see the cute basket I have for the hand towels.
I also purchased seat cover and a floor rug.
